Three Ways To Fix A Broken Tooth

Our teeth are strong, but they can still be broken. A sports injury or even biting down on a particularly hard piece of food can lead to damaged teeth. How do you fix a broken tooth? We offer an array of restorative treatments designed to fix teeth and ensure they look natural afterward.

Ways to Fix a Broken Tooth

  1. Dental Bonding: For minor damage we can often fix the tooth in a single visit. With dental bonding, we apply several layers of a composite resin (the same material we use for tooth-colored fillings). We then sculpt and mold the tooth as the material cures under a light. Finally, we polish the tooth for a more lifelike appearance. We can use the material to address chipped teeth, mask discoloration, or even close unsightly gaps between teeth.
  2. Dental Crowns: A crown fits over the entire visible portion of the tooth. We prepare the tooth by removing a small amount of structure and then taking impressions. At a dental lab, the impressions are used to design and fabricate the new restoration. We then place the crown. We can use them to address chipped, broken, or even fractured teeth.
  3. Dental Veneers: A veneer is a thin shell of porcelain that we place onto the front of the tooth. The veneer masks problems with the tooth's shape, correcting chips and worn down teeth. The restorations also offer a cosmetic solution to discoloration, gaps between teeth, and even the appearance of minor misalignment. As with crowns, we prepare the tooth but this time by only removing a thin layer of outer enamel. We take impressions, which a dental lab uses in the fabrication process. The patient then returns for a second visit, where we place the veneers.
