Periodontal Treatments

In some cases your examination may reveal gingivitis, which is inflammation of the gums caused by plaque; a film of bacteria that accumulates on the teeth and along the gumline. If this is the case, Dr. Hutto may perform a periodontal cleaning to reverse the effects and stop it from progressing into gum disease.

A periodontal treatment involves root planing and scaling to carefully remove bacteria, plaque, and tartar from underneath your gums. This is required when the bacteria has settled onto your teeth’s roots. This procedure is a little more complex than an ordinary dental cleaning and may require more than one visit to the office.

Dr. Hutto can use a local anesthetic to ensure no pain is felt during the procedure. Reversing gingivitis, or at least reducing its symptoms, will improve the look of your smile as well as help to increase your confidence and general oral health.
