CAT Scan Radiography

Although regular digital x-rays are offered routinely in our office to help diagnose and prevent basic dental problems, sometimes they are just not enough. For example, with the placement of dental implants, a dental cone beam computed tomography (CT) x-ray machine is used.

The scanner, by Vatech America, uses the latest technology to generate a three dimensional cross-sectional image of dental structures, soft tissues, nerve paths and bone in the craniofacial region, all in a single scan. Images obtained are of much greater quality than those produced by a regular x-ray machine and allow for very precise placement of dental implants.

There is no danger involved in having a cone beam CT scan done as the scans are low dose examinations, considerably less than the dose in a medical CT scan. The whole procedure may not take more than 30 minutes.
